Captain's 18 Hole Charity Challenge

by Professional

on Mon September 18, 2023

On Friday 11th August, the Captain and his team of members travelled over 120 miles to play 18 holes of golf, consisting of 1 hole at 18 different golf courses. The course began at Celtic Manor, before moving through Newport and Cardiff playing several courses on the way. The Vale Resort completed the front 9 holes. The team then played Southerndown before travelled out to Swansea, taking on Maesteg and Neath as well on a round trip. A quick pit stop at an, admittedly dubious, short hole at Port Talbot Golf Club followed, before making the journey back into Porthcawl. The Grove and Royal Porthcawl were the penultimate destinations. The group then returned back home at P&K to play their final hole.

Simon Howell, Club Captain 2023:

"We managed to complete our Longest 18 Hole Challenge, arriving back at P&K nearly 13 hours after we started in Celtic Manor. Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout the day and everyone that has made a donation to the Sandville Self Help Foundation. Thank you also to all of the 18 golf clubs that accommodated us, they were incredibly helpful in allowing us onto their golf course as soon as we arrived. Donations from the challenge have taken the total raised during my Captaincy to well over £6,000. This will make such a difference to the amazing work that Sanville does."

Our Ladies Team have won the 2023 Welsh Women's Team Championship. In a repeat of last year's Final against Newport, our ladies won on the 18th hole of the deciding match to complete an incredible victory. A huge congratulations to Captain Claire Hopkin, Fauve Birch, Elin Tynan, Cerys Mitchell, Chloe James and Cheryl Western.

Following the Men's Team winning last weekend, we now hold both the Men's and Women's Welsh Team Championships. This is the first time since 2006 any Club has achieved this. A truly remarkable effort from everyone involved.

Pyle & Kenfig Treble Winners

by Professional

on Wed August 16, 2023

Pyle and Kenfig Men’s Team completed a unique treble this season.

A tremendous effort by the team of Captain Tom Peet, David Phillips, Sean David, Sam Peet, Ronan Oliver and Matthew Peet saw them return from Porthmadog Golf Club as winners of the Men’s Welsh Team Championships. They had a tense and thrilling final against Glamorganshire with all the first four matches going to the final hole.

The second part of the treble was winning the Welsh Pairs Victory Shield in Newport Golf Club. Tom Peet and Ronan Oliver won all the way to the Finals Day at Newport. Due to illness Sean David replaced Ronan for the remaining two matches and together with Tom Peet beat Neath Golf Club in the Final.

The final part of the treble was for Glamorgan Premier League title. This was achieved with a 100% record throughout the season, a feat which has never been achieved before.

Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club are extremely proud of all these achievements and most noteworthy are the way the team conduct themselves; they are true ambassadors of Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club.
