Junior Golf Academy

Our Golf Academy is a professional and refined programme developed in partnership with HSBC Golf Roots, Wales Golf the national body for Junior Golf in Wales and the PGA.

The Golf Academy introduces the principle of the game and develops skills along with personal and social development that ultimately lead to a better all round golfer. For any young person with a keen interest in golf, this is a great way to progress.

Pyle and Kenfig golf club have received a national award for helping young people to learn to play golf, in a glittering ceremony at Wentworth.
The club, near Bridgend, were presented with The Bonallack Award at the Golf Foundation Presidents Awards which celebrated the “inspirational work” of volunteers and professionals who have given their time and enthusiasm to provide young people from all backgrounds and abilities with a start in the game.

The Welsh club earned the recognition for a project that has helped young people to ‘Start, Learn, Stay’ in golf, creating a pathway that has resulted in a significant increase in junior membership at the golf facility.

Pyle and Kenfig has embraced the development of junior golf over the past 12 months, taking golf into schools and working closely with Golf Development Wales, which has resulted in 47 new junior members, 20 of these being girls.

Our links with Local Schools

West Park Primary School

As the nearest school to Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club, we have developed a strong relationship with the school in terms of golf development. This has culminated in the creation of a 6 hole par 3 course which has been built in the school grounds of West Park Primary School.

The idea of the course is to allow children to learn and participate in golf, while in a school environment. The Year 6 Pupils monitor usage of the course, and the pupils from Junior age onwards are allowed to borrow plastic tri golf clubs, hi vis bibs and soft golf balls to play the course during lunch and break times in the summer months.

The pupils have had various projects to complete, such as measuring the length of the golf holes, and designing the score cards and tee markers for each of the holes. As well as allowing children to play and learn some key fundamental movement skills this has also captured their imagination.

Porthcawl Comprehensive School

Golf is the latest cool sport for teenagers, and for the 2018 season we will be holding regular golf taster sessions at the school for pupils aged between 11-16 that are new 2 golf, or who may have played before and want to take the sport up again.

As well as delivering golf during structured PE sessions at the school, the aim is to bring groups of pupils to Pyle & Kenfig to take advantage of our Driving Range, Golf Simulator and new 9 Hole Academy Short Course.
